Global Green Sustainable Competition:

Within the history of the Holy Cross-neighborhood lies inspiration for a sustainable future. Agricultural production; the struggle against the elements; and a community based on mutual assistance form the chapters of Holy Cross\' rise from swampland to notable Historic District. Our proposal takes its name from the rural American tradition of the Feed and Supply store. These businesses were brokers and community centers for farm families. A visit to the Feed and Supply provided everyday supplies and an opportunity to connect with neighbors and hear important news and information. Architecturally, our proposal joins two distinct historical periods to form a contemporary vision. The agricultural origins are recognized through simple, utilitarian forms and durable materials. The local historic domestic architecture (the 3 bay shotgun and camel shotgun) is reinterpreted and modernized. The welcome and familiar feature of generous public galleries is present along Douglas Street, and is expanded to a 35-foot high open air plaza and"community porch."
